Plastic Surgery Vs. Cosmetic Surgery:

Often considered synonymous with each other, both these terms are but different aspects of the main branch of medicine known as plastic surgery.

Plastic surgery intrinsically involves reconstructive surgery procedures which repair or correct deformities or abnormalities. There are surgeries for correcting protruding ears [Otoplasty], removing nasal deformities [rhinoplasty] and also for correcting abdominal deformities caused due to surgery [Abdominal Lipectomy].

However, these very same procedures can also be used to enhance the features in question.
Rhinoplasty can shape the nose; an otoplasty can give a slender shape to the ears, while an abdominal lipectomy can give a patient a narrow waist and a gently curved tummy.

As you can see, there are no definite lines that help to distinguish between the function of these two terms. Most
plastic surgeons are also called cosmetic surgeons for a reason. Once a reconstructive surgery is performed, the results have to look as natural as possible. Any flaws that were present in the body before surgery have to be brushed out.

Keeping this in mind, a
plastic surgeon has to apply his aesthetic sensibilities in such a way that the body is enhanced with a simple reconstructive procedure. Thus, with a plastic surgery both cosmetic enhancements as well as reconstructive needs are met.

Financial institutions, while assessing a loan for plastic surgery make a distinction between reconstructive surgery and a surgery for cosmetic enhancement. The former is corrected by health insurance plans, but loans for the latter carry a higher interest rate and are riskier, with banks treating them as ‘unsecured’ loans. It is recommended to discuss with your doctor the best way to deal with the financial aspect of the surgery.

The Plastic Surgery Institute of California is one of the foremost facilities presenting the best services in the field of plastic surgery. The doctors at our centers in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles realize the cosmetic possibilities that reconstructive surgeries hold and expertly work on the same to make you look better.
